His breath hitched, and he slammed the lid shut, heart pounding, stomach twisting with nervous energy. For a long moment, he just stared, blinking, struggling to process what he’d seen.
He reopens the container. This time, the beans have rearranged into a happy face. He slams the lid shut, his pulse quickening, unsure if he’s hallucinating.
Will stares at it, then gets up from his chair and goes back to his fridge. He grabs CannaBracula, pours out the dirty water, rinses it, and puts it back in the fridge. Next, he checks the Skywalker by smelling it and looking for anything unusual.
Maybe it’s going bad. Maybe it’s growing mold, he wondered. It looks fine to him, so he puts it away.
Returning to the table, he continues reading the instructions, which said:
“Please read these instructions carefully.
You have been chosen to use the Magical Beans.
When you are ready and fit to use one of them,
they will show themselves to you. Be prepared early
by obtaining a large pot or container of some kind
to hold the freshest and cleanest soil you can find.
*NOTE and WARNING: If used improperly the Beans
may be repossessed. Enjoy. :-)”
William laughed out loud. Maybe it was the Skywalker that set him off, or maybe he was just exhausted. He put the bean container away in the same kitchen cabinet next to his cannabis box. A yawn overtakes him. His eyelids too heavy to keep open without effort. He reheated the fried rice, scarfed it down without tasting it, and finally collapsed into bed.
